Symbolism is one of the standard ways in which the Akashic Records communicate with me. As a writer, I used simile, metaphor, and analogy extensively in my writing. When in school for my English degree, my professors would often comment on how I could pick out symbolism that others missed, or be able to follow an extended metaphor beyond their expectations. This skill proved to be of great value in the working world. Not.
Just as those who hope that Algebra may be helpful one day, I wished that I could put my fascination for these literary devices to good use. Amazingly, the Akashic Records is that good - no - GREAT use. I can understand very complex concepts in a short amount of time because The Records use what I know and understand. The Records "speak" to everyone this way - using your understanding to communicate with you. If you like music - you'll get music references. Movies - same thing. You don't have to learn the Records - it learns you.
When I prepare to enter the Akashic Records, I first go to My Room (in my mind, not a physical room). My Room is very girly (so not me in this life) with lots of lace and pretty things. Oh, and a Grizzly Bear named Teddy who is my Spirit Animal. I meet him here and take him with me on my journeys. For a very long time, when I was reading only my Soul Book, I had a feeling there was something to my right when I walked into the room, but I couldn't see it. I have some clairvoyance, but it is not my most active sense.
When I graduated to reading someone else's Soul Book, that first time, I walked into my room and suddenly saw that to my right was a rack with five or six white frilly dresses. For a young girl. Huh.
As I greeted Teddy, bear hug haha, I happened to look down and noticed that I was now IN one of these frilly white dresses, and I was about 12 years old. Huh again.
Being not always questioning the odd things I run in to, I continued and did the reading. At the end of the reading, it finally occurred to me to ask my Teacher why I was 12 and in the frilly dress. He smiled at me - code for "figure it out."
A-Ha! That meant that it MEANT something. I am still learning that EVERYTHING means something. I don't remember how long I thought about it, but I do remember being excited when I realized, "Oh! It's so I'm looking at someone else's Soul Book with the innocence and non-judgment of a young girl, with the added visual prompt of white for purity. Huh.
I liked it that I was changed into this getup. It made me leave myself in My Room, adopt a pure and innocent view, and not bring any of my ER Nurse, Grown-up, Mother experience with me to this person's Soul. It happened for the first five or six readings, and then I didn't need it anymore.
And so my readings have LOTS of symbolism. I will try to interpret the ones I get a "feel" for, but there are times when I'm seeing a lava lamp and that's for you to decipher. It can be annoying or fun - it's all how you look at it.
It is a privilege to open any Soul Book, and I will always do so with the utmost respect and reverence - remembering that I'm approaching it like a young girl in a white dress.
What is an Empath? Neither the dictionary (Dictionary.com) nor Wikipedia (yes, it IS a source) has the word Empath as a listing. Google the term, and you get 4.32 MILLION results (in 0.49 seconds). But - the first listing is a definition that says this:
GAH! This is not science fiction people!
Why do the "normal" sources fail to acknowledge the existence of such a person as an Empath, and yet there are millions of words written about them?
I leave it to Empaths smarter than me to prove we exist. I hope that a few words about this ability will ring true with someone who has it and doesn't understand what it is. In truth, all humans have it - we call it instinct. That means animals have it too. We humans are the only animals who will override this to be socially appropriate. This causes us stress and anxiety. I genuinely believe that if we can identify more people with a heightened sense of energy - medicating for stress and anxiety will decrease in direct proportion to education in energy management skills.
As a child, I lived with step-mothers (one after the other, not at the same time) who were mean, dark people. I could feel this. All the time. It was like a blanket that smothered me, and I had to learn to close off to this energy, or it would kill me (at least I thought it would). But I didn't know all of this consciously. I was terrified of them for sure, and I felt a heaviness in my chest. No one told me that it was energy that made me feel so terrible.
As I got older, I was able to feel energy directionally - meaning I could feel it in a particular place, coming from a specific person or being. I hated certain situations in high school not for the social awkwardness, but for the energy it generated. Dances were okay for about 30 minutes, the cafeteria SUCKED, and football games were fun.
In my adult life, I hate funerals because I intentionally stay open to be sensitive to others, but it is overwhelming. If we go to a party where everyone is happy and having a good time, I'm on an energy high for a week.
There are two ways to deal with being sensitive to energy - close it all off, or learn to manage it. Since I work with Energy, I manage it. I also close it off if I am going to a concert or an event where emotions can be all over the place.
I spent much of my life pleasing others because it made their energy more comfortable to be around. Now I don't have to do that because I can moderate the energy, so it influences me if it is "good," and doesn't affect me if it is "bad."
You can find lessons on energy management or closing (protection) all over the internet and especially YouTube. Once you know that being an Empath is part of your situation, then you can address it. What if your stress, anxiety, and fear aren't entirely yours? If you learn the basics of energy management, not only do you learn to manage external energies, but you learn techniques that help you manage your internal process. Couldn't hurt - right? Do some research, practice a few techniques, and be open to changing how you deal with the situations in your life by seeing them from an energy point of view.
Also be willing to accept the blessings that abound in the world. Send out love and peace - you'll be fascinated by what returns to you.
Energy, Mediumship, and Akashic Records readings can all help you to see your situations, challenges, and relationships in a different way - from the perspective of your Energy Body, from the perspective of your Loved Ones and Guides, and from the perspective of your Soul itself.
A Reading can also significantly challenge your beliefs and worldview.
I have a suggestion for those who cannot yet reconcile what these practices say about existence with what they currently believe: look at it as an example, a metaphor. Don't make it have to be true or false. Accept the information as an analogy or a play that shows certain human situations in a different place and time with different people. Shakespeare wrote, "All the world's a stage, and all the men and women merely players."
So if you can't quite believe in past lives yet - it's a play - just for you.
If you have a current life challenge with a co-worker, I will frequently ask your Soul Book to show us three recent past lives where you had some relationship with this person. Go.
Your Book then opens up to different pages and shows me vignettes of your interaction with this person, what the tensions were (same or different), and how or if they were resolved. This information will resonate with you in the form of enlightenment, an understanding, an "Aha!" moment. It allows you to then work through the current situation with some "background information."
Do you have to fully accept the idea of past lives to use this? Of course not. You can be open to the information and take it as a metaphor - as your Soul communicating a problem to you in a way you will understand.
You can also explore curiosities in the Akashic Records. If you are not exceptionally keen on me accessing your Soul Book, we can explore the Temple of Life, or talk to some of the Teachers who have the wisdom of the ages ready for you.
Want to know what makes your house happy or who lived there before you? There's a Book for that. Care to look at the Book for Mount Everest? Let's do it! Events, buildings, and public places all have Books in the Akashic Records.
A Reading can do anything you intend for it to do. If you engage in the process and set intentions - such as connecting with a particular loved one and finding out why you are repeating a particular pattern in your life - you will get a wealth of information that will be practical and meaningful in your life.
I live in California, a block from the beach. Yep - I'm a lucky girl. In the morning, I go out on my patio and have coffee - and I can hear the lions roaring. I have to listen carefully, but it's there. And this is not psychic at all. I live next to a zoo.
Information that comes from psychic perception isn't like they show it in the movies.
I don't see dead people in full blown 3D (although there are some who have this level of awareness). I see them as energy, usually in my mind's eye - like a dream or imagination. When I hear them, it's like a whisper; like ants crawling on the floor. When I smell them, it's a wisp of a scent - a cigar, a perfume, something cooking.
Most of the time, I feel emotions, sensations, temperature changes - and I just "know" things. This skill is not as cinematic as the see, hear, smell skills, so it often gets skipped in explanations of psychic phenomena - but it is likely the most common to all people. It's also known as "trust your gut," "follow your intuition," or having "spidey sense."
The regular world acknowledges that this exists because many people have had at least one event in their lives where it was in stark relief - it was OBVIOUS.
Psychic stuff is usually less than obvious. It is everywhere, but in our overloaded sensory culture, we tune it out as not being useful. If you want to develop your ability to hear spirit - take a few minutes each day to sit quietly and listen to your surroundings. Identify sounds - pay attention. Meditation and paying attention are the two best ways to improve any psychic abilities.
If you had to choose between the following two words for the state of humanity right now - "attentive" or "distracted" - I'm willing to bet we would acknowledge that we are largely "distracted." And yet we want to be engaged, attentive to family, life, and surroundings; but we are overwhelmed by the amount of sensory input we receive. I predict that if this does not change, the market for places that you can go to as a retreat will increase exponentially. We are social creatures, yes, but we are also connected creatures, and the call for this connection to be rediscovered is getting louder and more insistent.
Sometimes this call manifests as a vague knowing that there is more to life or a feeling that "someone" has the answers and you aren't allowed to have them. We can reconnect to the All That Is with meditation, with a quiet mind. If it seems impossible to get there from where you are - start by noticing your world, just your little space. With practice, you can hear the call. You have to pay attention, but you can hear it, faintly, like lions roaring in the morning.
If you haven't heard that The Event is coming - I'm here to tell you I'm a believer now.
The Event is not clearly defined, but it has something to do with Energy - Divine Energy, and it is all good. Lots of people are starting to get information about it from their guides, through dreams, and through hypnosis. It's possible that The Event will be a physically manifested phenomenon (described variously as a wave of colored energy sweeping over the planet - EVERYONE will see/experience it). This could be overwhelming and might freak people out who don't know what it is. That's where all of us Woo people come in.
Maybe it will happen to people individually - perhaps it will be this physical phenomenon that we will all see (that would be sooooo cool) - or maybe nothing noteworthy will happen at all.
I'm an unusually skeptical Medium. I question myself and the information I receive all the time. Perhaps it's Nursy me, Biochemistry major me (didn't finish that - got an English degree instead), or the replay in my head of my Dad, telling me that I couldn't possibly hear my mom singing because she was dead.
After he died, he came to me saying, "Why didn't you tell me about all this?" Well, Dad, I did, but you called bullshit.
I am a Medium, a psychic, and an Empath. I don't do anything with crystals or cards or any of the other esoteric things that abound in the spiritual community. I am uncomfortable if I have no direct experience. I much prefer speaking from a place of been there, done that. I've been out of body to heaven, I've been in past lives. And now I've had an Energy experience like no other before. Wowser!
On March 29, I had just awakened from sleep but had not opened my eyes. I became aware of writing, not in my mind's eye like I usually see things or the vision that is "through my eyelids." On the back of my eyelids, on black background, these words:
YOU ARE AT THE EVENT
The words were grey, but I could see them. I thought, "What event? I don't see an event. What event?" Then a pause of a millisecond and I thought, "Oh! THAT Event!"
As soon as I thought this, I experienced an internal burst of energy that came from my 3rd Chakra (just below my ribs) and rapidly expanded in all directions - like explosion fast. The energy was not external. It started internally. It wasn't a jolt of fear. Words don't describe it. It felt good, blissful. And HUGE.
I just laid there for about ten minutes waiting for the vibrating to decrease - it felt like I was ringing like a bell - my whole body was vibrating. The shock wave even had a sound - very much like the Seismic charges in Star Wars.
I NEVER have this stuff happen to me. Being a Medium is weird enough, but this was amazing. When I got up, I laughed because I'm so dense sometimes that the Universe has to tell me what is going on so that I can't argue about it. I got a sign. A real one. That said, "YOU ARE AT THE EVENT." And I still didn't realize what it meant at first. Sheesh. "Here's Your Sign."
I'm hoping that from now on when I open a clients' Soul Book, I'll see something about The Event - what is it - what happens next?
The only thing I know for sure is that it is 100% good. No fear. I'm happy that now if someone comes to me with a strange Energy experience, I've had one of my own. It helps with understanding.
PS - It wasn't a dream. I've been dreaming all my life. It wasn't a dream. I do not feel different from the experience in my day to day life, nor did it increase my abilities in a way I've noticed. I wish it made me more graceful!
I frequently get questions about Money. It makes sense as Money tends to have so much cultural weight that we can tie ourselves up in knots thinking about it. I find it helpful, when someone first poses a question about money, to ask them to define the qualifiers they inevitably add: enough, a comfortable amount, enough for me and some to be generous with, as much excess as possible (usually said with a laugh because this idea makes us uncomfortable).
It is also usually a question for the future, which has unique quirks.
But Money is a physical thing that represents Energy - and the representation is so ingrained that Money becomes Energy.
A bonus for a job well done may give you an actual jolt of happiness. You may feel indifference, or joy, or frustration when you get your regular salary. Paying taxes may make you feel sick to your stomach, or proud that you are paying your share. Money (Energy) has attached value due to where we are sending it, or from where we receive it, and our perceived value of that situation. Hmmmm.
Energy is an exchange - it is neither created nor destroyed. You put Energy into something, Energy returns to you in the form of money, or love, or joy, or however the Universe finds to return that Energy. It's not a 1:1 relationship, and certainly not a perfect exchange, but we expect a reaction from an action. If you are willing to accept love, joy, and Source Energy as your return, accept Money as well, and begin to think of it in this way.
During Readings, I often look at money questions with a Relationship Rose - a Psychic/Mediumship/Akashic Records symbolic representation with Roses that shows me you and your relationship to something. It can be a person, a job, or even money. I have been surprised, amused, and horrified by what I see when I look at how you are in relationship to your money.
My favorite one so far has been where the client is like a teenage girl with a crush. Interested, attracted, desperate, giggly, avoiding. To me, that's been the best representation of how many of us feel about money - like the first infatuations in life - clumsy, awkward, feeling undeserving and not worthy. We can't quite understand this strange being, but we like it and want to be with it more. But we are scared of it too - what if something goes wrong?
Because we exist, we are loved beyond measure - not for what we do or who we are. This love is Energy - available to us if we just accept it.
I invite you to think about how you view Money. Then take some time to think about how you view love, or joy, or Source Energy. All of these should be received easily (but we make it difficult). The challenge, the goal is to receive Energy in return for the Energy you are - as an Exchange - and in whatever form you desire.
In 2010, when I was still working as a nurse, I wrote a list.
Things I Learned in the ER:
1. The weirdest things fit in the weirdest places. Patient confidentiality prohibits any further detail. Use your imagination, and you still won't be able to encompass the full scope of this delightful human pastime. However, the excuses and explanations are all the same.
2. The ability to have olfactory premonition is very helpful (I would sometimes smell blood right before a trauma - independently verifiable by my former coworkers). Either I have some level of psychic gift, or I'm a vampire.
3. An artery can shoot blood all the way across a room.
4. Playing practical jokes on the doctors makes the day go by faster.
5. Surgeons don’t have the ER sense of humor.
6. People do not realize when their heart stops. If they are otherwise healthy and awake, they are incredibly surprised when I hit them in the chest, or shock them, and they yell “Ow! Hey! What’d you do THAT for?” (Well sir, your heart wasn’t beating).
7. Pain medicines do not take away all the pain; they make you not care that your leg is broken.
8. There is a light in your eyes that goes out when you die. Watching it is humbling.
9. People will accept suffering with an amazing amount of dignity and grace if they feel it is for a reason. Any reason.
10. If you tell a mother that her eighteen-year-old son is dead, you will remember her face and her name forever.
11. If you advocate for a mother to hold her seven-year-old child one more time, she will remember your face and your name forever.
Today, I want to address item #9 - "People will accept suffering with an amazing amount of dignity and grace if they feel it is for a reason. Any reason."
In other words, we want to know "WHY?"
I've never been one to accept the cultural answers of "We don't know why," or "No one can know why," or the worst, "There is no why."
Religious answers can be just as frustrating - "Only God knows why," and all the variations on that theme.
But Spiritual answers do no better when we apply the "Everything happens for a Reason," or "You chose this," to suffering and grief. YIKES!
Of all the answers, I do believe the last two are true - with qualifiers. You have to know on a Soul level what the answer is - you cannot just randomly tell people that one or both of those sayings is True, for Everyone, All of the Time - because that's not true. They are platitudes - sayings whipped out when we don't know what to say.
Some things are "meant" to happen, meaning there is a Soul Contract or agreement between parties for things to go down in a particular way or at a particular time. And then there are accidents. Every human has free will, and if you add these "rogue" elements of actions "off contract," you get a very complex thing called Life on Earth.
We do choose quite a lot of our situation. We make agreements with other Souls to experience things (loss, friction, connection) so sometimes it isn't about you. You are helping another Soul and willing to go through the things necessary for that to happen.
Imagine your Soul as this brave "Bring it on!" creature who takes on challenges in order to grow, assist, and experience. A human would never choose the loss of a child, for example, but your Soul agrees to go through it because your child's Soul wants a concentrated experience, a focus on existing joyfully and so chooses a short life. You agree to this experience as you will have a brilliantly joyful soul in your life, and her loss will bring you into closer connection with the Divine. Then you both have free will and so does everyone around you. Go.
It's all very complex - and utterly simple.
How do you find the answer to the Why in your life? Prayer (talking to God), and Meditation (listening to God) both go a long way in connecting you to your Soul and finding wisdom about your life.
The Akashic Records can show you contracts, background information, how you went about the process of planning this life, what events were accidental, and what was contracted. Your Soul Book can show you all of this because it is YOU, and you, as a Soul, understand the events and storyline of your life.
Time also allows a distance and softening of emotions so that you can look at events as they are and have fewer layers of judgment to peer through.
The question "Why?" is answered when you feel a sense of understanding, a resolution of the feeling that the answer is out there, but you aren't allowed to have it. We are all allowed to have our answers. It just takes a little asking, and looking, and listening.
The Universe has been beating me over the head for the past few months about asking the right questions, and more importantly, asking them in the right way.
When I read your Energy, I gather information. Sometimes, if you have a question about your Energy, your Energy will oblige and show me something more than what I initially saw. First, it is an Oracle; then it becomes responsive.
Similarly, when I use Mediumship, Loved Ones, Guides, and Angels often have messages - they function as Oracles. If we ask questions of them, they become responsive too. They can respond to broad or vague questions because they KNOW YOU, and they know what it is you want to know. The trick is to send it through me and not have my prism of perspective muck it up.
But - the Akashic Records work a little differently. Depending on where the information resides (and information can reside in multiple places), the Records require a little bit of question refinement.
You Soul Book lives in the Akashic Records and is part of your Soul. Asking it a vague question usually gets you nothing. Why? Well, unlike Loved Ones, Guides, and Angels who KNOW YOU, the Soul Book IS YOU. Therefore, it has every bit of information about you, and a vague question is impossible to answer. For example, if I say, "Tell me about your childhood," you, by convention, know I am asking you to give me the highlights, the relevant parts, not a minute by minute account. But your Soul Book does "remember" the minute by minute account, and is overwhelmed into silence by broad questions.
So, to get the right answers (meaning helpful ones) - you have to ask the right questions in the right way.
Now - how do you ask the right question in the right way if you have no idea what to ask?
That's where I come in. During the Akashic Records portion, we start with a big question and revise it together so that what you most want to know is what we ask the records. Let's look at an example of how you refine a question for the Akashic Records.
Me: What is your question for the Akashic Records?
Sally: Why do I have such a tense relationship with my Dad?
Me: Define "tense" or maybe talk about why you used that word.
Sally: I feel like he judges me all the time. I never let my guard down. It's like he tries to find something to criticize.
Me: So does he seem tense toward you or is that how you feel when you interact with him?
Sally: It might just be me, my side of the interaction.
Me: So let's look at Past Lives, Current Life, and the Relationship Map. In Past Lives, we'll ask, "Please show us any past experiences where Sally has felt criticized or judged by her Dad." Does that sound like the right question to you?
Me: In Current Life, do you want to look at various events or time frames for an explanation, or just more recent time?
Sally: I think just the past few months.
Me: So the question will be, "Please show us the last three interactions between Sally and her Dad where she felt criticized or judged." OK?
Me: And finally, in the Relationship Map, we can ask "Are there contracts in place that agree to this dynamic?" Let's leave this one a bit open-ended, and we can revise more once we get some answers. Is this the right question for you?
Sally: I think so, yes.
This is a generic example, (and unrealistically efficient) but it shows what I mean by "revising the question."
Now for those who think getting direction from you (your questions) influences what I see in the records, it doesn't. However, I can look for information "blindly," meaning I can ask the Record to show me the most crucial issue Sally needs to resolve or understand. Or during the Mediumship portion, I can get information from her Guides and Loved Ones and then ask the Record questions based on that information. But this is inefficient. I get SO much information this way. I want your 90-minute session to answer the questions you want to know. I may get them intuitively or I may not. I don't feel the need to prove how I get information, so I'm willing to cut to the chase and help you ask specific questions that not only get you answers but sometimes get you solutions too. It's just a different way of working. It won't appeal to everyone.
Learning to ask the right questions will help you in your Akashic Records reading, but my guidance frequently says that we, as a culture, need to get back to personal discernment, being inquisitive, and being responsible for our own experiences. I recommend practicing asking more specific questions whenever the opportunity presents itself. You may be surprised at the amount of information, knowledge, and wisdom you can gather in real life.
Those three words are very different concepts, but our culture likes to connect them. I love this article on how this relationship was established and the inherent problems with making them be related. It's worth five minutes of your time. Really.
The interesting thing to me is that while this relationship model hasn't turned out to be especially useful for business (where it originated), it is profoundly valuable for spiritual exchanges. Why?
It's useful because something goes on that we can't explain with words, nor understand in our Earth - 3 Dimension - Body paradigm. Practitioners feel this when they get information outside of the five senses. They interact with spirit or energy in a way that might not have any inherent meaning to the practitioner, but these interactions impart information that has VOLUMES of meaning, symbolism, and connection to the client. So information becomes instantaneous knowledge and many times, wisdom, sometimes for both practitioner and client.
It is not a linear process nor is it a purely intellectual process.
In our current society, information inundates us. Social media prompts us to give our opinions on everything. There is much more difficulty in discerning if someone is giving an opinion based on knowledge than the days when most of our conversations were local, singular, or in person. We've learned to accept position, degrees, certifications, and years of experience, as proof that a practitioner has knowledge if not wisdom.
But something unusual is happening. Many of us - those who are called to explore spirituality, healing, and connection - are finding ways of being of service that don't fit into the currently accepted validation constructs. There isn't a degree for what I do. I just learned more about something I do naturally and found that it has some value.
I don't think building a construct for practitioners will be the answer either. The very nature of the work REQUIRES that the client be personally discerning. We are being led back to trusting our instinct, to being responsible for ourselves.
My opinion on why we are going through a distrust phase - examples being the media and leadership - is that we are being pointed back towards ourselves. The pendulum needs to swing back to personal responsibility, and spiritual seeking provides those opportunities regularly.
So gather information on a practitioner you are interested in working with, but also trust your instinct. Discernment gives you a better opportunity to acquire knowledge and wisdom.
And now, the third post (after Energy and Mediumship) to explain how the modalities work for me - so you know what I'm doing and what to expect during a reading.
The Akashic Records are an energetic repository of information, knowledge, and wisdom. These are not different words for the same thing - but that's another post.
After I Read your Energy and connect with Loved Ones, Guides, and Angels, I can research your questions in the Akashic Records. Again, my process is simple. I say a brief, four-line prayer, and enter my Akashic Room. I join my spirit animal (a grizzly bear named Teddy) in the room, and together we go into the Communication Room (the meadow as I described in the Mediumship post). We go up the three steps, cross a bridge, and enter the Library. A Librarian takes us to a private room with table and chairs and then brings the requested Soul Book. The Books are different for each Soul. The Librarian places it on the table and then my Teacher - Bandar - comes in and assists me. Teddy stays by my side. I read, interpret, experience, and download information from the book. I rely on Bandar for his interpretation, translation, and instruction. My "research" in the Library allows me to address your questions and concerns.
Most people associate the Akashic Records with past lives, and indeed, that's one place to find them. But the Akashic Records are so much more. In the Akashic Library is your Soul Book, and everyone else's Soul Book, and books for all sentient beings. I've heard it said that the Akashic Records only houses information for Earth, but I disagree. Experience has shown me that is not the case. The Temple of Life is similar to a museum where you can go to learn and interact with any subject in the Universe.
In your Soul Book, the sections about Current Life, Past Lives, Career, and Relationships are often multi-media.
If you have relationship questions, we can look at your various relationship contracts. If life purpose is your primary reason for booking a Reading - we can look at career. There are also books for places and non-sentient beings such as plants.
As you can imagine, this research can take much more time than merely passing on messages from loved ones. It has always felt disingenuous when a practitioner says it will take more than one session to accomplish a task, but sometimes that is true for information, knowledge, and wisdom from the Akashic Records. It is what it is. However - there is another way. Learn to read your book.
You. Can. Read. Your. Soul. Book.
1. Information: a book, a teacher, a YouTube video
3. No prior skill
My recommendation is that you learn to read your Soul Book. It takes a while, but it's possible and available. You won't ever need a medium, or psychic, or tarot reading ever again. Sometimes it's fun and valuable to have an outside source confirming what you know to be true, but you won't ever feel that someone else has information that you are somehow not allowed to have. As sovereign beings, we are allowed and encouraged to enter the Records for guidance and information.
I also recommend that you learn from Teri Uktena, who is a skilled practitioner and teacher.
During the session, we can cover a lot of ground. I intend to set you on your way to self-discovery, but I'm happy to help you as well with a Reading or two.
Here is the second post (after Energy) about the modalities I use and how they work for me - to help you decide if I would be a good fit for your needs.
Mediumship is being the middleman, the messenger (don't shoot!), and a conduit of sorts. I channel information sometimes from a collective I call The Choir who have been helping me all my life.
My process is simple. I imagine myself in a shaft of gold light that flows down through me, all around me, and into the earth, grounding me. I walk up three stone steps (first step - peace and tranquillity; second step - love and light; third step - communication) and find myself in an Akashic Room - a meadow that is very beautiful. I meet my spirit guide Marshall (they don't have names - it makes humans happy to call them something because that's how we roll) and ask him to interpret and organize for me.
Then I call in whoever you want to contact. Unlike some mediums who say they have no control over who shows up, 90% of the time, whoever I call for - appears. I have no idea why this is, but clients have verified that who I am describing is that particular loved one. I also have no problem getting my loved ones to come in.
I communicate with your loved ones, and often they appear in the way they felt the best - not always how you remember them - and I get lots of personality and feeling. The intention I set for these encounters is that YOU will feel them also. It's one of the things all of us as practitioners can do to help you - assist you in your connection with the ones you love. The Reading can be a big old love fest, or if there were issues left unresolved, we could begin to untangle them.
I can then contact your guides and angels and give you information from them.
I don't know how Mediumship works, but I have an opinion. I think that because we are all from one Source energy, we can communicate with separate beings because we are not separate at all.
I thought it might benefit those who are not sure about booking a reading with me if I give you examples of what I do, and how I do it, and how it is evolving every time, almost every day.
When I say I "Read your energy" - what does that mean and what do I and/or you do with that information?
Energy is the first information I receive from you - and this is how it usually goes:
I begin with asking you to say your given name and then spell it for me. The vibration (energy) of your name and the vibration of your voice lets me "find" you. I have no idea how it works, but it feels like when you are looking for a certain word in a "Find a Word" puzzle, and you suddenly see it - your focus zeros in on it. Only my focus isn't on paper, it's on energy, space, vibration, "out there."
I then ask you (usually telepathically) if I may see your energy body. There are different levels of energy bodies, but "energy body" simplifies the explanation. I don't usually say this out loud to prevent confusion. I believe that I am speaking with your Higher Self when I ask this and on rare occasion have been told "no." So your soul will not let me see your energy if you don't want me to.
Then you show up in my awareness. Sometimes I see colors in my mind's eye, like a memory or imagination, and sometimes I just feel it.
I describe to you what I see (I Read your energy), and if my guides or your guides want me to interpret or explain something, I will. Often, I just give you what I get. It is for you to know and come to understand. So think about what the movement, colors, and shapes could mean to you. Sometimes your interpretation is much more critical to your understanding that anything I could say.
It's also just a snapshot of the moment. It doesn't mean your aura is a particular color or shape. These colors come about from the light that you are as an extension of Source, and like sunlight going through a prism, they result in color - you are a prism, and the condition of this prism expresses color and shape.
I spend a few minutes on describing what I see because I wouldn't see it if it meant nothing. This description (and oh, how I wish I could draw or paint) is my chance to help you to see the brilliant, fantastic embodiment that you are. If I say that Princess Diana's wedding dress is white - that is true - but it leaves out a multitude of details that allow you to form a picture in your mind. So, I endeavor to give you a Reading of what your energy looks like at the moment.
If your energy body looks shabby or dull, I will tell you. It's not a judgment. You should see mine on Saturday morning when my dog wakes me up to go potty at 4 am. Sometimes the process of having a Reading done makes you feel vulnerable, exposed, anxious, fearful, and those emotions show up. I read for a friend not too long ago who was very hesitant, and her energy swirled in slowly on the floor and gradually "stood up" when I said out loud to her, "I see you - you're safe."
To be honest, I don't know why my guides structure my Readings this way. Maybe in their Universal Humor, they are starting every conversation with the basics - energy - and when I see you as that pure form, then your soul responds with joy at being seen as you truly are - brilliant light.
The About Me section on the website is short, the TLDR (too long, didn't read) version. That's quite enough for some people, and for others, it isn't nearly enough information to decide on booking a Reading with me. So here, I will offer a bit more information.
When I had my first reading with a Medium, it seemed like magic. I had no idea where or how she was getting the information about me. I didn't understand it at all. Fast forward a few years in my spiritual journey, and I realized that I had been doing what she did my whole life, but attributing it to other factors - a vivid imagination, that I was smart, that I paid attention to body language, etc.
The lightbulb for me was the idea that we are all One. We come from Source. Because of this, Mediumship is simply speaking to another portion of yourself.
When we are not in bodies, we have no boundaries. We are Spirit, energy, light. As cool as that sounds, it's one of the reasons Souls choose to enter an embodiment - to have personal space (a body), and privacy (thoughts and feelings). Sometimes you want to be able to think and feel and do whatever you want - well, a human body is excellent for that!
In spirit, all communication is telepathic and mostly thought-form, not language as we know it. So other Souls are not impacted, you have to control your thoughts, feelings, and energy consciously. I know this because I've had Out of Body Experiences and I "remember" what it is like to not have a body. That would be evident to those who know me personally - I'm a bit clumsy. One of my Soul lessons is to become a better body assimilator - I'm sloppy at integrating with my human bodies. Oh well, next time.
When I do a Reading, I see you, your loved ones, and your guides, as an extension of Source - as me. It may be a mind-bender, but I'm convinced this is why Mediumship is possible.
I also don't see my abilities as gifts. I think we all have them. Some Souls come into a life where they forget who they are and do not use their gifts because it meets their goals. Some never realize they have them, some know it and are frightened, some work hard to develop the skills because that was part of the plan. We all have them, but not all of us use them every life.
I'm also not big on proving it to anyone. I would love to be an Evidential Medium and give you data point after jaw-dropping data point, but that's not how I roll. My guides are much more interested in helping you with seeing problems and situations differently, empowering you with a whisper of insight, and reminding you of WHO YOU ARE. So my readings are much more about thinking and feeling than "prove it" information. I do make sure at least one of these "prove its" show up so that you know the rest of the information is for you and you alone.
For example, a recent Reading gave me a metaphor image for doing things the hard way - a young man in a wheelchair at the bottom of a flight of stairs. The Reading was for a woman, so I knew this wasn't her, but I wasn't sure if it was metaphor or actual until my guide turned my head enough to see the wheelchair ramp on the right. Then I knew it was a metaphor. The client got a lot out of my explanation and other information that came through. But "doing it the hard way" could apply to lots of people. So I asked my guide to give me a "prove it." I saw my dog - a black lab - morph into a small white dog with brown spots. The client used to have a large black dog and now had a small white dog with brown spots. Tah Dah! I don't think that applies to lots of people.
So while I don't get lots of "prove it" info, I do understand that it solidifies the reading and will endeavor to get at least one during your reading.
In my first post on this new site, I talked a little about how being a writer lead me to discover that I was a Medium.
I seem to get lots of clients who have successfully navigated the big goals of life - family, career, success in all its various forms, but who now search for a Purpose. I resonate with this searching because I did it not so long ago. And yet, I didn't put the path together until recently when friends and family started asking me how I found out about this Mediumship thing.
I knew I always had experiences - many of them frightening - so I "turned it off" for years. I knew that in 2013 I had to leave traditional medicine - I couldn't do it anymore. I knew that I loved writing and tried gallantly for six years to be a writer.
A moment of some clarity in 2016 led me to the realization that I had arrived at "average" after all those years of writing and that I wanted to be good at something, not just average.
So, I stopped writing and made space for something else. And I made space, and I held space (translation - didn't do anything this culture would call productive) for about a year.
But I knew that the thing I would be good at was out there - I just didn't know what it was. So I continued to hold space.
Even now, I don't remember what the push was - what the catalyst was that got me to see a Medium speak (Suzanne Giesemann) which in turn got me to go to a Mediumship Development group (Hillary Michaels).
As I look back, I realize that the last book I was working on was aided entirely by my connection to the two protagonists in my story. I was communicating with them. All the time. I even channeled them sometimes. It still took me over a year to identify with any conscious thought what I was doing.
And that is why I spent six years writing and learning to write - so that I could discover I was a Medium. Huh.
For those of you seeking purpose - you get to choose. Instead of looking at your search with the question, "What am I supposed to do?" ask instead, "What do I want to do?" I wanted to write, so I did. It lead me to the most stunning discovery of my life.
Spirit fascinates me. The most fascinating fascination is that Things That Are True are true whether you believe in them or not. God exists and doesn't need for you to believe that "he" exists. What you call this energy and how much you "believe" in it does not affect It, it affects you.
What many in the spiritual community are referring to when they say "your truth" is actually "your perception," which is, to you, true.
Every Medium works differently and will get different information because every Medium is human and has a different perception which governs their perspective of existence. We are telling you the truth from our perspective.
If you and I are standing face to face, and I say this oak tree is on my right, would you argue with me because clearly, the oak tree is on your left? No, because we understand how the world works and that my perception is influencing my description of the tree. We don't even process it consciously because it is an accepted concept.
HOWEVER - very few of us (myself included) understand how the Universe, how Existence works, specifically the spirit realm. So much of our communication about it is from our perception of it. That is the only way we can communicate something that is beyond our human senses.
If you are lost in the wild, how do you know where you are? Triangulation. You use three different points to orient yourself. I don't mean that you should go to three different Mediums to verify information, nor that you shouldn't trust what we tell you. BUT - know that if you don't understand or recognize the information, your reading is just one of the waypoints. Another waypoint may be your intuition or knowledge, and another could be your experience. Put the information in its proper role.
Probably everyone on earth has had a dream they can't describe, or an experience, or a feeling that defies language. Does this mean it didn't happen? Of course not. Communicating what we perceive is often limited by language and the other person's understanding.
What is proof of Truth? Experience. When a Medium gives you a piece of information that you feel is true, it doesn't matter if it's perfectly communicated, because you are becoming part of the experience. Most Mediums want you to be able to connect to spirit by yourself and should offer some teaching in how to do this, what to look for, where to learn more. It is the experience of connection that shows you Truth. Yes, it is truth from your perspective - at first.
Over time, these experiences translate into Universal Truths - that the soul is eternal, that Source is Love. It's not enough for someone, even your loved ones through a Medium, to tell you that you are loved and are eternal - you go through Perception to Truth when you experience it - which is where you started, isn't it?
I borrowed the title from Nike. I hope I don't have to pay royalties. I think I've used this phrase a lot in my life because I am of the innate design in which I plan, evaluate, plan, evaluate . . . You get the idea. Just do it. Well, what are you doing this time, Jo? I'm going professional! Professional what? Exactly.
What I do is going to evolve as I do it, but at some point, I have to put myself out there and DO IT.
When you find yourself up against something you are afraid of, my guides tell me to imagine the worst that could happen from just that thing going wrong - not the cascade of events your mind can make up, just a failure at that one thing.
Most of the time, it involves bumps and bruises emotionally, but in the big picture - you've learned something. That learning, almost in its entirety, is what we are here to do. Some call it growth, or expansion, or co-creation. I call it learning.
I'm learning a lot today. Ouch.
I am a Medium. That's hard for me to say out loud (or, on screen as I am now doing). Why? Why is this hard to admit and own when in reality ALL humans have the abilities I have? I'm normal, hardworking, full of doubt some days and confidence on others - just like you. We are all the same, and in fact, we are all ONE. I know, it's a hard concept to wrap your head around.
I started a blog, Characteristically Speaking, when I was learning to be a writer. I've thought about migrating all 114 posts here, but they don't all pertain to my work as a Medium. Surprisingly, many do. When I wrote fiction, frequently my stories were about the supernatural, spirits, scary things and how young people deal with having "gifts." Yes, I wrote what I knew.
Little did I know that I was compelled to write not to become a world-famous author with beloved characters that would outlast my current lifetime, but to discover my intuitive gifts. I started writing a story about a man from Belgium and a woman from San Francisco who fell in love through letters, were separated by WWII and impulsive actions, and never met, yet were connected across miles and centuries. These were real people, and my friend had their letters, all 400 of them, written over almost 50 years. Maurice and Mimi had a tragic love affair, true Soul Mates actually, and they started to communicate with me in a way that wasn't my imagination. I felt them. I heard them. I could smell Maurice's cigar. And I fell in love with them too.
